Information about Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School Newborough

Immaculate Heart of Mary (St Mary’s) is a Catholic primary school located one hundred and thirty eight kilometres from Melbourne in Central Gippsland.

St Mary’s Primary School in Newborough has been offering quality education in the Moe-Newborough area for 60 years. St Mary's offers all children and their families an environment where learning for all aspects of life is highly valued.

St Mary’s comprehensive curriculum is based on the needs of the individual child, with a high priority placed on literacy and numeracy, where we believe all children can succeed. The staff at St Mary’s structure the learning to teach each child at their own point of need.

We provide many opportunities for our students to participate in a wide range of sporting and performance-based activities; including the annual school concert, the Traralgon Eisteddfod and inter-school sports.

All the classrooms in the school have recently been refurbished and in 2017 we opened  our new Learning Centre.  We have an extensive, fully-fenced playground, which includes a grass oval and two basketball/netball courts.

In 2020, our enrolment is 179 students with a staff of thirty, which consists of the principal, deputy, middle leaders, classroom teachers, school counsellor and school support staff, both in the classroom and in administration.

We provide specialist subjects of Art, Music, Italian and Physical Education, these are available for the whole year to all grade levels. Our general curriculum is wonderfully complemented by our Diocesan Religious Education curriculum, “To Live in Christ Jesus”

We pride ourselves on the effective pastoral care and the community spirit which exists at St Mary's. We gather as a whole school community to celebrate important occasions throughout the year such as, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparent’s Day. Our annual school fete and concert are both tremendous community events.
